VAYNE: Built From the Streets, Sharpened by the World

VAYNE: Built From the Streets, Sharpened by the World

Coming up in Atlanta and moving with intention across the globe, VAYNE is an artist defined by motion—physical, mental, and creative. Self‑taught and multi‑faceted, VAYNE built a name first in the streets, then carried that energy into galleries, large‑scale murals, sculptures, and experimental studio work.

Known internationally and active in more than 14 countries, VAYNE’s work is rooted in graffiti but never boxed in by it. From abandoned concrete walls to corporate commissions, his practice stays fluid, responsive, and fearless. Since joining the iconic MSK crew in 2023, the mission has only sharpened: evolve faster, push harder, and keep making things that haven’t existed before.

Below, we get into VAYNE’s process—how ideas start, how challenges get handled, and why finishing the work matters just as much as starting it.

Artist Q&A: Vayne

What is your artist name you like to go by?

VAYNE MSK

How do you start a new piece?

Starting a new piece usually comes from a thought but other times it come from gestural movements I make when sketching.

What was your inspiration?

The inspiration I get comes from my surroundings and past life experiences. Also the urge to make up things that I haven’t seen done before. I like to make new things happen. I’m starting to do that more often now

How do you move from idea to finished artwork?

It’s as simple as starting, but for me when I start something I do everything in my power to finish it. Sometimes it turns out better than I imagined. Usually the idea isn’t as clear I want it to be sometimes but it’s the pull on my heart that gets me started.

Which tools or materials are essential to your process?

Pencil/pen, paper, brush, spray paint, roller pole, ruler, speed square

Do you have any habits or routines that help you focus?

Coffee, sunlight, yoga, drawing, looking for rocks, long drives help me think

How do you handle challenges while creating?

All challenges present themselves differently, but for me if I can’t figure it out myself I ask my inner circle. Deep breaths help and also taking short breaks and putting my mind elsewhere go a bit so I can come back with a fresh mind.

Do you plan your composition fully or figure it out as you go?

I like to plan things out as much as possible, sometimes I over plan, the finished product isn’t always as deep and complex as I think it may be. Other times I’m in way over my head haha. It’s a journey always though.

What part of your process do people often miss or misunderstand?

I can’t do everything by myself. It takes a team and having people in my corner that want to see me succeed is step one.

How has your process evolved over time?

The evolution is just making wiser decisions and not getting worked up as much when I come upon a cross roads. Sometimes a decision is better than freezing.

How do you know when a piece is finished?

A piece is finished when my heart says it is. There are plenty of things I’ve put out as unfinished to me because of deadlines. But usually nobody can tell but me.
